I recently spoke with Peter H. Gilmore. He is the high priest of the Church of Satan. Defying expectations many would have, myself included, Mr. Gilmore was a very friendly guy and I found I had a lot of common interests with him. Then again, I was always a little wicked. I just found out recently that a film review of mine I wrote for Associated Content years ago got sold to Yahoo. The film is Spun and it's since become minor cult classic. My father use to bug out watching Reefer Madness and now my generation watches movies about methamphetamine. What's next?

Indie Sci-Fi Art Porn

As a writer you have to start out somewhere. In my college years, I cut my teeth writing reviews of adult films. One of the most unusual films was Avenue X, by Emmy winning filmmaker Joe Gallant. I actually met him at a special screening of a rough cut of the film at the sadly gone Pioneer Theater in the East Village. He was a cool guy who even invited me to to party with out in Las Vegas during the AVN awards. Alas, I never got to go. The publisher didn't send lowly writers like myself to the convention, just the editors. I always wondered what kind of scene that would have been.

Inside the Octagon

My recent assignment covering a roller derby championship led me to think back to my first foray into sports journalism. I contributed two articles to 30ninjas.com, which was primarily an action film web site. the folks at 30ninjas.com realized that the same guys who loved action films also loved mixed-martial arts. Basically guys love anything really that involves violence.
